Buy single issues of comics online?

November 282009

I remember years ago that there were some MAIL ORDER comic companys out there. You could by Single Issues from DC, Marvel and alot of other companies. Are there any companies like this but online?

My first suggestion would be to SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL COMIC SHOP!

Of course, if that’s not viable for once reason or another, there are solutions. I’ve looked some shops before and here’s where I would go.

mycomicshop.com –This is really great if you’re looking for a specific comic, old or new. They have a ginormous selection and I would say that their prices are on the low side. Very reasonable.

If you’re looking for current comics, I’ve come across some sites that appear reasonable, but have never dealt with them personally:

http://g-mart.com
http://www.mailordercomics.com/
http://www.comicsnow.com/

I’d suggest just googling "comic book subscriptions" to find the best deals. Of course, you can subscribe directly through most comic book publishers, but if they’re like DC they delay when you receive the book from when it was originally published.

*Here’s another thing that might help that doesn’t directly answer your question:

Another option is, if you don’t care about prospective value (which I wouldn’t recommend caring about,) is to collect comics once they’ve been printed in trade paper backs (which could also be purchased online.) These tend to be cheaper and give you the full story all at once with no advertisements.

I hav a lot of old comics which i wud like to sell, does anyone kno a shop in london where i cud sell them?

November 282009

i live in south west london, is there any shops that would give me a good price for all my old comics?

Chances are you’ll find that they won’t be worth as much as you hope, depending what you have. If your comics are from before 1975, do research into what you have. If they’re from after that year, it’s very unlikely you have anything rare of significantly sought after. Most comics from the 80s and 90s routinely sell for 25 cents or less, with only some exceptions (Watchmen, Sandman, indie titles like the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, some Uncanny X-Men). I don’t know what you have, but many 80s/90s collections are filled with undesirable or extremely common fluff books like New Mutants or spin off titles for Spider-Man, Superman and Batman. Joe’s estimate of a dollar a piece is very unlikely if you take them to a comic book store (if they’re from the 80s/90s). Comic stores would go out of business if they offered those kinds of prices.

The alternative route is to list the comics for sale on craigslist.com and you’ll find collectors in your area willing to pay more than the comic stores. Ebay may also be a more profitable way to go, although most people will hesitate pay the shipping charges which can end up costing more than the books themselves when dealing with a collection of several dozen or hundred comics.

In London, THE comic shop to go to is Forbidden Planet, and they have several locations. Call one of them and ask if they’d be interested in looking at them and offering you a price. Here’s their website and list of their locations
http://forbiddenplanet.com/stores/
Since they have multiple locations, they may recommend you take it to one store rather than another, and suggest when to bring them in so you don’t show up when there are no managers around.

Is there a good site to read Marvel comics online for free?

November 282009

I’ve neglected my Marvel comic reading for too long and I would really enjoy reading some full comics online.

So does anyone know a good site that has free full marvel comics?

(they don’t even have to be recent ones)

The best way to sell comics that are high value and low value?

November 282009

I have some valuable comics like the first issue of Conan the barbarian. Most are all in mint condition. I have the pricing for the valuable ones, but what is the best way to sell the less desired ones?

Should I sell the best ones individually, or as a lot on ebay?

You could try Craiglist.com and create an account there. You’d be surprised how effective that is. It doesn’t really matter if you sell stuff in bundles or separately.

The interested parties will contact you either by phone (if given) and/or by an anonymous email that will redirect it to your inbox. From there you can choose the buyer. Good luck!

Golden, Silver, Bronze, & Modern Age of Comics?

November 282009

Gold: 1933-1955.
Silver: 1956-1972.
Bronze: 1973-1983.
Modern: 1984-present.

Let’s say that GA went on for 22 years, SA went on for 16, & BA went on for 10. In the future, when Modern Age comics are too old to be considered Modern Age, will they be Brass, Iron, or Stone Age? & when is the cut-off line? The comics I read in the 90s were kid-stuff to what’s out now, so have we already missed the mark?

Why are they going downhill in time when the Golden Age comics were so terrible & the Silver Age comics were embarrassing & loaded with propaganda? Shouldn’t the Golden Age be the Stone Age of comics?

Well, the people that made these designations are older people, not from our generation.

We may think some of the Golden age stuff is terrible, but to older people the golden age comics are "nostalgic". Everything contains history that should be learned about and preserved…but I have never agreed with this system for naming things.

Once we reach something new that we have to define an even more modern era, I think it will just change in general–maybe to like the "online age" if webcomics dominate it, or name it after whatever icon that defines it.

Or it could be like they have done in the film industry and had a"post-modern" period added after the "modern" age.

Just remember, history is full of relative definitions. (I mean, would you want to live the rest of your life in the Golden age of Greece or Rome? I know I wouldn’t) In normal historical time we have the Stone age, followed by the Bronze age, followed by the Iron age…and these stages are all named for the types of tools that people used in civilizations of each time period, not necessarily for a gradient of best to worst.

Perhaps one day, all of these gold-silver-bronze aluminum or plastic-whatever titles will fall to the wayside and they will just be named for what they contain. I suppose we will just have to wait and see. Don’t get too bent out of shape over it…sometimes historians are just a little weird about stuff like this. ^_^

What are the funniest "Silver Age" Batman comics?

November 282009

Alright…& Wonder Woman….
It doesn’t count if you went to Superdickery & judged by the covers. If you just looked at the cover of Batman 66, you wouldn’t have guessed it was full of boner jokes.

So what issues hold the most hilarious Batman stories ever?
Oh wait, you can include Golden Age issues too. I’ll even take the funniest old Superman/World’s Best/Detective Comics etc issues as well.

I am trying to decide whether to go with a Hot Wheels or Marvel Comic heroes (Wolverine, Spiderman, Fantastic Four, etc.) theme for my son’s bedroom. He loves them both, so I want to use the one he will still like in a couple years. Any preferences and if so, can you give me some decorating ideas and places where I can buy everything?

What Batman comic should I start reading at?

November 282009

Posted in comic | 6 Comments »

I’m not a very avid comic reader, so I’m going to ask you guys a VERY broad question…. I’ve recently became interested in the DC comic book character Batman, via his latest video game (Arkham Asylum). And I wanted to know where should I start reading Batman comics that tie in with the MAIN DC storyline leading to his death. So, what comic should I start reading?

Well Final Crisis if you want to read his death …. but that book was terrible.

You should get Battle for the Cowl and then Batman & Robin. XD

what is the main theame and the plot in these books:
Code Orange by caroline b conney
hosue of the scorpion by nancy farmer
turnabou by margret petterson haddix

also what is the diffrenct between plot and theme????

The plot refers to the storyline of the book. The incidents in the book involving the characters.

The theme is the broad idea of the story. Ideas that the author is trying to convey.
