How do I submit a comic strip to a newspaper?

February 62010

I have been designing a little comic strip that I believe would be kind of entertaining in a newspaper. Could someone just explain to me the series of steps i need to go through in order to get my strip published. I understand that you have to submit them to a "syndacate" or something which then sends it to newspapers, but what exactly is a syndacate and how to I find one?

Look up the following: King Features Syndicate,

http://www.kingfeatures.com/subg_comic.htm

United Features Syndicate:

http://www.unitedfeatures.com/?title=Submissions

Universal Press Syndicate:

Things are pretty consistent — they four to six weeks of continuity for example.

Good luck.

How are manga and comic artists able to draw the same characters in different situations and different poses?

January 252010

I feel like if I were to draw a manga or comic, the character would look like a slightly different person in each frame.

Some of it is hand drwn and some of it is digital.

If the artist has captured the face and the body of the character, they can just re-create the same character in a different pose using the help of computers.

Yet, some are so good they dont even require digital assistance.

I’m totally new to comic books, but I’m really interested in them, especially superhero ones. Since it’s such a vast world, can any fan tell me what i should do and where i should start?

Sorry - I’m out of touch. I could have told you 30 years ago….

How do you start a comic book company?

January 42010

Me and my friend want to know how do we start our own
comic book/graphic novel company LIKE Marvel/DC.I am a comic writer
who also writes novels while he is the artist who draws
most of the work.We have money but not a WHOLE lot
of money. We know we must hire people like artist, writers, editors,
pencilers and colorists. But what else must we do to get it started?

You need editors, authors, artists, colorists, a printer, distributor and legal advice, at least. But before you need any of those, you really ought to work on a Business Plan. When you do the research to write your business plan, you will discover what else you need, and you should put all your needs into the BP, plus how you plan to address each one. Your BP should also describe who you expect will buy your comics - and you should find people who fit the model of your expected customers and see if they actually like your work, and ask them how much they would pay for it.

When you have a good BP, you should create a couple of issues of your first title, hand drawn and lettered and produced on a copier, if necessary, and look for investors.

Business plans sound like a downer, a pain in the ass, and something that will delay you from starting your company. But if you have a good business plan it will alert you in advance to a lot of the issues you are going to have to face, and give you a good idea how to overcome them. And you’ll have real problems finding investors without one.

I personally loe astonishing x men by josh whedons story line. I loe how kitty pryde sacrafises her self to save the world and infuses to a bullet. I would recommend spidergirl that is a great read about the future of alot of the marvel charecters especialy spiderman. This is a summary of the story.

What is the suggested music for the watchmen comic?

I heard somewhere that Alan Moore released a list of songs to accompany reading the comic version of the watchmen and I was wondering if anyone knew what that list was.

While I’m not sure if this is the specific list, there are songs that are featured at the end of some of the chapters in the graphic novels.

Those songs include:

Desolation Row- Bob Dylan
The Comedians- Elvis Costello
All Along the Watchtower- Bob Dylan

As well as others.

For the whole list, here’s a great site I found that has a bunch of info on the songs, as well as where they can be found within the graphic novel.
