Spiritually speaking will Thundercats ever make a comeback the way all these other old cartoons & comics have?

January 232010

You know like Transformers, GI Joe or Spiderman. I think they should make a live action Thundercats Movie.

Yes they should and to put it in a Religious Context it should be called "The Passion of the Thundercats."

How can we get Yahoo to bring back the old Comics Module?

January 72010

The new Go Comics application is awful! No longer can we get all of our comics to display on our page at the same time. We have to go through a series of clicks to see each one and the page loads so slowly it’s not even worth it. The choices are crap. Also, the new App wants to collect information on us and share it with others? Whose idiotic idea was that?

I agree with you. This new way is awful. The old way was better.

What do I do with old comics?

January 42010

My mom has these old comics of scooby doo, casper, marvel comics, etc. They are like 40, 30, 20 year old comics from when she was a kid. They are in these plastic covers and look brand new but she does nothing with them. I think she should sell them because they are just sitting there collecting dust but she has no clue where or who to sell them to. Any help?

collect them, they could be worth a lot of money do research at library on how to preserve comics, how to buy and sell them,ETC.

Whatever happened to those great old weekly comics like Dandy, Beano, Hotspur, Wizard?

December 162009

Whatever happened to those great old weekly comics like Dandy, Beano, Hotspur, Wizard, Chips (remember Weary Willie and Tired Tim?), Adventure, Rainbow, Boys’ Own Paper, Eagle, Lion?

Well, the Beano and the Dandy are still around, or were until recently. But children nowadays are not so intereste din reading comics. My sons liked them when they were younger, but mainly the ones that were TV tie-ins, and came with toys. No.2 son occasionaly buys a Yu-gi-oh or Pokemon comic.

But children nowadays mostly prefer watching TV and playing on Nintendo DSs and Wiis and things.

The comics I liked when I was young were the girls ones like June and Schoolfriend, Princess, Diana etc. They had lots of stories about girls having exciting adventures. My favourite story was Mamselle X, which was set during the Occupation of France in WW2 and was about an ordinary schoolgirl who was secretly a member of the REsistance by night. What made it even more exciting was that the local Nazi commandant was actually boarding in her house! And he never suspected a thing! Dear Mamzelle X, I wonder what happened to her after the war. I suppose she must be grandmother by now.

Another story I really liked was Chairman Cherry, about a girl who worked as a cleaner in this big company, and when the company chairman is taken ill she helps him, then he dies in hospital and leaves her the company, because he says she’s the only person who ever showed him any kindness. The two company directors, Moddle and Coote, think they will easily be able to dominate her and get her to do whatever they want, but she outwits them at every turn, and they begin to respect her. I admired Cherry very much.

I hav a lot of old comics which i wud like to sell, does anyone kno a shop in london where i cud sell them?

December 12009

i live in south west london, is there any shops that would give me a good price for all my old comics?

Chances are you’ll find that they won’t be worth as much as you hope, depending what you have. If your comics are from before 1975, do research into what you have. If they’re from after that year, it’s very unlikely you have anything rare of significantly sought after. Most comics from the 80s and 90s routinely sell for 25 cents or less, with only some exceptions (Watchmen, Sandman, indie titles like the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, some Uncanny X-Men). I don’t know what you have, but many 80s/90s collections are filled with undesirable or extremely common fluff books like New Mutants or spin off titles for Spider-Man, Superman and Batman. Joe’s estimate of a dollar a piece is very unlikely if you take them to a comic book store (if they’re from the 80s/90s). Comic stores would go out of business if they offered those kinds of prices.

The alternative route is to list the comics for sale on craigslist.com and you’ll find collectors in your area willing to pay more than the comic stores. Ebay may also be a more profitable way to go, although most people will hesitate pay the shipping charges which can end up costing more than the books themselves when dealing with a collection of several dozen or hundred comics.

In London, THE comic shop to go to is Forbidden Planet, and they have several locations. Call one of them and ask if they’d be interested in looking at them and offering you a price. Here’s their website and list of their locations

Since they have multiple locations, they may recommend you take it to one store rather than another, and suggest when to bring them in so you don’t show up when there are no managers around.

Is it a good idea to re-create a villian from the old Spiderman comics?

November 222009

I plan on being a filmmaker and this character has really caught my attention. I want to re-write his origin and leave Spiderman out. His name is Hydroman. Could I be sued if it was made into a movie?

Yeah, they’d sue you for that. You could change him into something more lame like "Waterman" or "H2O Man".
